An organic wine is a wine produced according to the principles of organic farming, both in the vineyard (viticulture) and in the cellar (vinification). The name of “organic wine” has been regulated since 2012 by European specifications. This succeeds the European specifications of 1991 regulating "wine from organic viticulture", which had to respect the principles of organic farming only in the vineyard and not necessarily in the cellar. Wines that display the European organic logo are certified by an independent control organization, which guarantees that grapes and wine are free of synthetic chemicals products before and after harvest.
